Will 2023 Be a Bad Year for Stock Market.....AGAIN...?

%POST_TITLE% Thumbnail

Will 2023 be a bad year for stock market......AGAIN?  Who knows, but history would certainly suggest odds are against it.

There are plenty of headwinds for 2023 (as there are for every year) like possibly the most anticipated recession in modern history.  However, statistically, unlikely for another down year though.

Back-to-back down years are pretty rare.  Only 4 times since 1928 has this occurred.

4 years in a row ('29 - '32)

3 years in a row - this happened twice ('39 - '41) & (2000 - '02)

2 years in a row ('73 - '74)

Certainly not investment advice, but hang in there and you'll probably be rewarded!!

Interesting fact about the 2022 S&P 500......

Market index will be down about 20% for 2022.  Did you realize that 98% of that loss was a result of 5 trading days....?

May 5 - My favorite one (sarcasm)!  Down 3.6% this day as FOMC chair, Jerome Powell, assured investors that they were NOT considering future rate hikes of more than 50bps going forward.  Subsequently, the FOMC raised the Fed Funds Rate more than 50bps at each meeting thereafter in 2022.  Did he lie or just not have a clue what he was talking about?

With that being said, humble yourself - you are not smarter than the stock / bond market.  Don't try to rationalize an irrational entity, which are the markets.

Remember, nobody in the history of the stock market has been able to consistently and accurately predict tops / bottoms of the market.
